Be safe online
16 July 2010
With identity theft and phishing on the rise, it's never been so important to be vigilant about online safety. ‘Phishing', which refers to the criminal practice of tricking someone into revealing their personal details, can be eradicated by taking a few simple precautions.• Always make sure you enter your bank details into a secure internet setting. Check the URL when you are making a payment. Secure internet sites are easily identifiable as they begin with https rather than http and the padlock symbol will be displayed.
• Never ever disclose personal or sensitive information in response to an unsolicited email.
• If you are unsure whether or not an email is genuine, always check with the provider; they will always be able to confirm whether or not the email has come from them.
• Be aware of fake e-mails or websites that try to trick you into revealing personal information e.g. your date of birth or mother's maiden name. Make sure to use a known web address or one already stored in your favourites.
• Only download content from websites you trust.
At taxback.com, online security is one of our primary concerns. We will only ask for sensitive and confidential details such as bank details within a secure medium. We are committed to protecting your details and any information provided by our customers is treated with the highest standards of security and confidentiality in accordance with Data Protection Acts 1988 and 2003. If you have any concerns about online security, you can chat live with a tax agent today or email info@taxback.com.
